AHS 101 – Introduction to Health Professions

This course provides a study of the health professions and the healthcare industry.


AHS 102 – Medical Terminology

This course covers medical terms, including roots, prefixes, and suffixes, with emphasis on spelling, definition, and pronunciation.


AHS 104 – Medical Vocabulary/Anatomy

This course introduces the fundamental principles of medical terminology and includes a survey of human anatomy and physiology.


AHS 106 – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

This course will give the student the knowledge and skills to learn how to save a life. The student will learn the skills of CPR for victims of all ages and different settings. The student will learn to work as a team member in practicing CPR in a team setting. The skills the student learns within the course will help them recognize emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest and how to respond as well the Heimlich maneuver if someone to be choking.


AHS 108 – Nutrition

This course is a study of nutrition and diet therapy as related to healthcare.


AHS 110 – Patient Care Procedures

This course provides a study of the procedures and techniques used in the general care of the patient.


AHS 116 – Patient Care Relations

This course includes a study of the psychological and emotional effect of illness, hospitalization and recuperation upon the patient, others, and health care providers


AHS 117 – The Care of Patients

This course is a study utilizing the nursing process. Concepts include physiological, psychosocial, nutritional, and health and safety needs of the older patient. Clinical experiences address selected commonly occurring health problems having predictable outcomes


AHS 126 – Health Calculations

This course is a study of the mathematical concepts needed in health science studies.


AHS 136 – Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology

This course is designed to give you comprehensive view of the body as an integrated whole, in which all body systems will be studied.


AHS 138 – Medical Coding Basics

This course is a study of basic concepts of coding for medical/dental services for the health professions.


AHS 141 – Phlebotomy for Healthcare Provider

This course is the beginning study utilizing the phlebotomy process. Concepts include physiology, psychosocial, health and safety needs of the adult child and infant. Clinical experience and skills labs will address selected vein punctures and microdermal punctures and the different specimen collection.


AHS 143 – Phlebotomy Skills

This course is the study of phlebotomy equipment, procedures, techniques, and practical experiences in skills lab and clinical.


AHS 146 – Phlebotomy Experience

This course includes comprehensive clinical experiences in medical
laboratory specimens collection, transport, storage, and basic test procedures.


AHS 148 – Special Topics in Geriatric Care

The course is a study utilizing the nursing process. Concepts include physiological, psychosocial nutritional, health and safety needs of the older patient. Clinical experiences address selected commonly occurring health problems having predictable outcomes.


AHS 160 – Health Calculations

This course is a study of the mathematical concepts needed in health science studies.


AHS 208 – Health Management

This course is a study of the principles of management in a health care environment, including supervision, medically ethical decision making, medical team concepts, human resource management, supervision of medical professionals at various levels, & organizational structure in health care settings.
