QEP

Overview

Williamsburg Technical College’s accreditation is reaffirmed every ten years by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). SACSCOC is a private, non-profit and voluntary organization founded in 1895 in Atlanta. For an institute to be accredited and reaffirmed, the Institutions must demonstrate compliance with the SACSCOC Principles of Accreditation and prepare a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). Reaffirmation of accreditation by the Commission on Colleges involves a thorough review of compliance through an off-site peer review, an on-site review, and review by the Commission’s Board of Trustees.

What is the focus of the college’s quality enhancement plan (QEP)?

Williamsburg Technical College’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), GRAD & GO: Accelerated Developmental Learning, aims to improve student success and student learning by redesigning its developmental education courses. The QEP was born out of a collaborative and broad-based process that established the goal of targeting students who place into developmental courses and providing them with an improved pathway to success.

GRAD & GO: Accelerated Developmental Learning’s redesign of developmental courses includes the accelerating of developmental courses by replacing eight traditional developmental English, reading, and math courses, (RDG 031, RDG 032, ENG 031, ENG 032, MAT 031, MAT 032, MAT 101, and MAT 102), with three courses that consist of an integrated developmental reading and writing course titled RWR 032, accelerated developmental math course titled MAT 033 and accelerated intermediate algebra course titled MAT 108 that will be referred to as College Ready Accelerate Courses.

Grad&Go Goal

Williamsburg Technical College (WTC) is committed to students, quality education, access to education, contributing to the community and a quality work environment. Therefore, the Quality Enhancement Committee selected a topic that would mirror the mission and vision for WTC. Our goal is to accelerate students’ academic success toward graduating on-time by using retention methods, streamlining developmental courses, and improving student advising.  Together as a college and a community, we will ensure that every student at WTC succeeds by guiding retention, academic development and graduating on-time.

Overall, WTC’s QEP GRAD & GO is based on research that supports the concept of students spending less time in developmental courses in order to encourage students to complete their program in a timely manner and to avoid high student attrition rates.
