Workforce Development and Continuing Education

The Workforce Development/Continuing Education Department pledges to provide a suitable alternative to traditional learning by providing short-term job training and community interest classes to everyone in our county service area.

Our goal is to ensure that all who seek career advancement receive the proper training for the current job market. For those who want to learn more about a favorite hobby or interest, our classes offer up-to-date and exciting information. To register for Workforce Development/Continuing Education courses:

1. Complete the Online Application 

2. Print and mail the completed application and fee payment to the Workforce Development/Continuing Education Office; or

3. Deliver the completed application to the Workforce Development/Continuing Education office and make fee payment at Business Affairs.

Points to Know: – Workforce Development/Continuing Education courses are not eligible for traditional financial assistance. – A minimum number of students is required for a class to be taught. If fewer than the minimum number is enrolled by one week prior to the start date of the class, usually the class is canceled. – If a course is canceled by the College, tuition will be refunded in full. If the course is taught and a student decides to drop, withdraw, or not come to class, normally no refund is given. – A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is a nationally-recognized unit of credit for recording satisfactory completion of certain continuing education courses. One CEU represents ten contact hours of instructions. Completion certificates may be awarded to students who satisfactorily complete a continuing education course. – Normally students under 16 years of age may take Workforce Development/Continuing Education courses with the written approval of a parent or guardian. Some courses are not available to minors due to South Carolina laws or due to the discretion of the instructor (primarily for safety concerns). – Senior citizens pay the same fees as other students for all courses.   

New and Expanding Industry Training Opportunities: Williamsburg Technical College cooperates with new and expanding industries to train work forces. Most often, the training is conducted in the industry where the trainee may be employed and, depending upon the program objectives, may consist of both classroom and on-the-job training. All training programs are established to meet the specific needs of particular industries. Workforce Development/Continuing Education courses are not eligible for Title IV or S.C. Lottery Tuition Assistance.

Corporate and Customized Training:  The Workforce Development/Continuing Education staff is committed to training a skilled workforce in order to meet the new and expanding labor force requirements of current industries. Our professional and knowledgeable trainers possess the industrial and business acumen that enables them to customize training in a way that will increase proficiency and productivity for your organization. Training programs can take place at your location or in one of our classrooms or computer labs at our Kingstree campus. Courses and workshops are available in Leadership and Team Development, Manufacturing, Warehousing, Technical Skills, Customer Service Excellence, Computer Software Application, Workforce Ethics, OSHA Safety Training, Forklift Truck Operator, Real Estate Renewal, Defensive Driving, Manufacturing Production Technician, and Pre-employment Training Programs. Additional programs can be designed and delivered to meet specific performance requirements. The Workforce Development / Continuing Education Department offers hundreds of courses online which are not subject to many limitations encountered with conventional courses. Williamsburg Technical College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Department is offering a SNAP2Work Employment and Training program in order to provide job training and retention pointers.   The SNAP part of SNAP2Work stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which is a program for individuals who are receiving food stamps and who are seeking employment. SNAP2Work teaches job search tools for success such as resume writing, interview skills, and career testing; how to seek in the right places and make connections to help find a job; education, reading and writing skills to prepare one for the job market; vocational training to upgrade skills to meet labor market requirements; and job retention services to help one keep a job once it is obtained.   Requirements to participate in the SNAP2Work program include registering for work, being at least 18 years of age but under 50 years of age; and having no dependents.   People who are not qualified for participation include persons under 18 years of age or over 50 years of age; students enrolled at least half-time; persons receiving unemployment insurance payments; persons responsible for the care of an incapacitated person; persons who are pregnant or physically or mentally unable to work; persons who have a dependent child under 18 years of age; and persons who are employed and working at least 20 hours per week.
