Contribution to Williamsburg Technical College
Williamsburg First National Bank president and CEO Alan K. Chandler recently presented a symbolic check to president of Williamsburg Technical College Dr. Cleve H. Cox and Williamsburg Technical College Foundation chairman Henry Poston signifying their most recent contribution to the College. Their donation will provide three Williamsburg First National Bank Scholarships. The contribution was part of the Foundation’s Campaign for Educational Enrichment to increase donor support to help students cover tuition, book, and fee costs which are not covered through traditional financial assistance.
Students at Williamsburg Technical College often find their resources are not enough to cover the ever-rising costs of tuition, fees, books, and attendance expenses. South Carolina Education Lottery Tuition Assistance monies only pay after any possible federal assistance is realized and lottery monies cannot be used for books or fees. Therefore, a significant percentage of technical college students simply “fall between the cracks” when it comes to eligibility for financial assistance.
Scholarship gifts are categorized in three ways. Gifts up to $1,000 become part of the General Scholarship Fund and will be awarded to eligible students as determined by the College scholarship committee. Gifts of $1,000 or more will be given in the name, honor, or memory as designated by the donor or in the name of the donating organization, business, or other entity. These scholarships are given each year as funded by the donor. A gift of $10,000 or more will endow a scholarship to be given in perpetuity in the name, honor, or memory of the donor. The scholarship is derived from the interest accrued on the donated amount, which must be earned before the scholarship is awarded.
Gifts made payable to the Williamsburg Technical College Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, are tax deductible. Williamsburg Tech remains dedicated to providing quality, affordable and accessible opportunities for students to achieve their educational goals in a fiscally, administratively, and academically sound and supportive environment.
