WTC Student in Welding Competition
Williamsburg Technical College student Danny McFadden recently competed in the state welding competition held at Florence-Darlington Technical College. A Kingstree native, McFadden was the first Williamsburg Technical College student to ever participate in the state competition.
McFadden competed in one of six entry categories performing two different welding processes with three types of filler metal. He completed the following tasks using accurate safety measures within the state time allotment: gas tungsten arc welding Aluminum on a tee joint, gas tungsten arc welding with stainless steel filler metal on a carbon steel tee joint, and gas metal arc welding on a carbon steel single vee grove joint.
“I was very proud of his knowledge, skill level, and professionalism,” stated welding instructor Jeff Ball. “Even though he did not win first place, he represented our College in a very professional manner and is very much a winner in my eyes.”
