Williamsburg Technical College Upward Bound Students Win Scholars’ Bowl
Students in the Williamsburg Technical College Upward Bound program recently won the 2008 South Carolina Council of Educational Opportunity Programs Personnel (SCCEOPP) Scholars’ Bowl competition against 10 other colleges in the state. The competition was held at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Conway. In April the team will travel to Atlanta, GA, to compete for the regional title.
Upward Bound participants are recruited each year from the Williamsburg County district high schools. To qualify for inclusion in the program, all participants must be first-generation potential college graduates; they must be in grades nine-12; they must be age 14-19; and they must exhibit an academic need and meet the economic guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education. All participants are exposed to various cultures and institutions of higher education through out-of-state field trips and college tours.
