WTC Quarles Award Presented

Williamsburg Technical College early childhood development adjunct instructor Carletta Isreal received the 2007 Quarles Excellence in Teaching Award from Clifton Elliott, Dean of Instruction at the College during the May 4 graduation ceremony.  A Kingstree resident, Isreal graduated from Kingstree Senior High, earned a bachelor of science in early childhood and elementary education from Charleston Southern University and a master’s degree in education in remediation from Francis Marion University.  She has served since 2002 as executive director of Williamsburg County First Steps.  She has previously served as a teacher in the Williamsburg County School District at St. Mark and D.P. Cooper Elementary Schools. The Quarles Award is presented to an adjunct faculty member nominated by students and faculty members on the basis of excellence in teaching.  A committee of students and faculty members reviews nominees and a recipient is selected.  The Quarles Award is named in honor of the late Dr. Ray Quarles, Jr. of Kingstree who served as an adjunct physics instructor at Williamsburg Technical College.
