
Opera Star to Perform at Williamsburg Technical College
Students, faculty, staff and the public are invited to hear opera star Meloni K. Mathius perform in the Williamsburg Technical College Auditorium Wednesday, March 21, at 11:10 a.m. This event is sponsored by Student Support Services as part of their Cultural Diversity Awareness series.

Lyric coloratura Meloni Mathius studied voice in New York under a veteran of the European and the Metropolitan Opera stage. She is a member of Screen Actors Guild and Actors Equity and has studied acting in Los Angeles. She has performed for audiences throughout the United States, Canada and Germany in operas, recitals, musicals, oratorios, and benefit concerts. Miss Mathius was born in Anderson, South Carolina, where she began singing solos in church. By high school she was an accomplished flutist. She graduated from Spelman College in Atlanta and pursued an M. A. degree in education at Columbia University Teachers College. Miss Mathius studied dance with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center and the Dance Theatre of Harlem and was soloist for the Hudson Repertory Dance Theatre. Following her performance at Williamsburg Technical College, Miss Matius will be auditioning for the Spoleto Festival in Charleston. She is the daughter of Mrs. Vernelle Starks of Greeleyville.
