
WTC ETS Participants Receive Scholarships
Three Education Talent Search (ETS) participants at Williamsburg Technical College have been awarded scholarships based on leadership, academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and recommendations of counselors.

Faith O. Blackmon was awarded the $250 Demar L. Roberts scholarship. This leadership scholarship is awarded based on an essay, letters of recommendation, and the student’s involvement in school and community activities. The student must also be a participant in the Williamsburg Technical College ETS program. She was recommended for this scholarship by her former ETS counselor Leroy D. Gibson, Jr. A 2007 graduate of Kingstree Senior High School, Blackmon plans to enroll at Francis Marion University in the fall to major in elementary education. She is the daughter of Clifton and Libbie Blackmon of Kingstree. This scholarship is made available by Demar L. Roberts, former ETS participant at Williamsburg Technical College, who is currently a student at South Carolina State University.

Shadeara Gist was awarded the $1000 Southeastern Association of Educational Opportunities Programs Personnel (SAEOPP) scholarship. SAEOPP is the regional organization for Federal TRIO Programs such as ETS. She was one of just a few students from each of the southeastern states to receive this scholarship. This scholarship is awarded based on academic performance, honors and awards, extracurricular activities, community involvement, recommendations, and an essay. She was recommended for this scholarship by her ETS counselor, Cassandra Graham. Gist is a 2007 graduate and valedictorian of C. E. Murray High School in Greeleyville and plans to attend Clemson University in the fall. She is the daughter Geneva Capers of Greeleyville.
Tianna Pressley was awarded the $500 South Carolina Council of Educational Opportunities Programs Personnel (SCCEOPP) scholarship upon the recommendation of ETS counselor Beverly Campbell. SCCEOPP is the state organization for Federal TRIO programs such as ETS. She was one of six students throughout the state to win this scholarship which is awarded based on academic performance, extracurricular activities, community involvement, recommendations, and an essay. Pressley is a 2007 graduate of Hemingway High School where she is ranked third in her class. She is also a former dual enrollment student at Williamsburg Technical College. She plans to enroll at the University of South Carolina in the fall and major in pharmacy. She is the daughter of Willie J. and Sheila Pressley of Nesmith.
