Academy Individual Win WTC Math Contest
Four area high schools competed in the twelfth annual Williamsburg Technical College math contest on Feb. 12. Among those participating were Carvers Bay High School, Hemingway High School, Johnsonville High School and Williamsburg Academy.
Overall individual first place winner was Williamsburg Academy senior Tripp Connolly. Team winners representing Johnsonville High School were seniors Ross Foshee, Zach Chandler, and Rachel Gaster and juniors Ashlyn Cribb and Nick Sanders. Foshee was top individual scorer for his team, and Cribb and Sanders placed fifth and fourth respectively in the overall individual competition.
Carvers Bay High School seniors Qushaun Gibson, Tervian Lovelace and Karra McCray along with juniors Macey Owens and Kyle Dean took second place in the team competition. Gibson won individual winner for his team and was also named third place winner in the overall individual competition. Carvers Bay math team faculty sponsors were Judi Robinson and Venetta Dekine.
Third place team winner Williamsburg Academy consisted of seniors Tripp Connolly, Anna Caroline Chinnes, and Ricky Wan and juniors Anne Miller Adams and Leanne McFadden. Connolly took top individual score for his team and also was named first place overall winner for the competition. Math team faculty sponsor for the WA team was Chuck Montgomery.
Hemingway High School top individual scorer was senior Julietta Dickson who participated with fellow senior team members Anindita Chokrararty and Henry Brewington and juniors Rashad Smalls and Chris Patel. Hemingway’s team was led by math team faculty sponsor Betty Jean Sellers.
The top team individual winners received trophies, while the top five overall scorers won trophies and graphing calculators. The three top teams won trophies and medallions and the winning team will have their school name engraved on the coveted “Einstein” trophy which features team names of all past WTC math contest winners.

Williamsburg Academy senior Tripp Connolly won first place overall in the individual competition during the Williamsburg Technical College math contest on Feb. 12. He was also top individual scorer for his school’s team and helped lead his team to the third place spot in the competition.
