KIRBY SCHOLARSHIP FUNDED AT WILLIAMSBURG TECH

A scholarship was recently endowed by Dr. John Wynn, president emeritus of Williamsburg Technical College, in memory of M. Oneal Kirby, the longest serving member of the College’s area commission from the date of the College’s founding in 1969 until his death in 2007.  He served as vice chairman from March 1981 until December 1982 and as chairman from January 1983 until March 2006.

According to Dr. Wynn, “Oneal Kirby was fully committed to the quality of education offered at the College. He was guided by high moral principles and a great sense of ethics and honesty. He took pride in the continuing development and growth of the college and its contribution to the community and to its people." The scholarship, which totals $10,000, was given in part by friends and family in Kirby’s memory at the time of his death.  Wynn’s gift brought the total to the requisite $10,000 to endow the scholarship.

Gifts of $10,000 or more will endow a scholarship at Williamsburg Technical College to be given in perpetuity in the name, honor, or memory of the donor. The scholarship is derived from the interest accrued on the donated amount, which must be earned before the scholarship is awarded. Once interest is sufficient to be awarded, the award is presented to the student at the College’s fall scholarship awards ceremony.

Gifts made payable to the Williamsburg Technical College Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, are tax deductible. Williamsburg Technical College remains dedicated to providing quality, affordable and accessible opportunities for students to achieve their educational goals in a fiscally, administratively, and academically sound and supportive environment.
