FENNELL SCHOLARSHIP FUNDED AT WILLIAMSBURG TECH

Egypt, Texas resident Dr. John T. Wynn, President Emeritus of Williamsburg Technical College, in Kingstree, South Carolina, has endowed a $10,000 R. Cleo Fennell Memorial Scholarship. Fennell, a founding father of the College, served as the first chairman of the college’s Area Commission from the inception of the College in April 1969 until December 1982 and as vice chairman from January 1983 until his death in 1990.

According to Dr. Wynn, Fennell serving as the Superintendent of Education for Williamsburg County had a vision for advanced educational opportunities in the county. He was committed to bringing that vision to fruition in part through the post-secondary institution of what was then known as the “Williamsburg Regional Manpower Training Center” and then became more fully developed as it matured into Williamsburg Technical College.

Gifts of $10,000 or more will endow a scholarship to be given in perpetuity in the name, honor, or memory of the donor. The scholarship is derived from the interest accrued on the donated amount, which must be earned before the scholarship is awarded. Once interest is sufficient to be awarded, the award is presented to the student at the College’s fall scholarship awards ceremony.

Gifts made payable to the Williamsburg Technical College Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, are tax deductible. Williamsburg Technical College remains dedicated to providing quality, affordable and accessible opportunities for students to achieve their educational goals in a fiscally, administratively, and academically sound and supportive environment.
