Williamsburg Technical College commemorated the 222nd anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States last week. Those present heard Kingstree attorney Ernie Jarrett speak about the importance of the document which defines the valuable freedoms Americans enjoy. He solicited audience participation as he enumerated the articles of the document and spoke of the amendments to the Constitution though the years.
Jarrett, managing partner of Jenkinson, Jarrett, and Kellahan, is a member of the SC Bar and the US District Court District of SC and primarily practices in the family courts system. WTC’s Interim president Dr. Cheryl Cox closed the program by reminding those in attendance that the constitution and its amendments provide rights, but that citizenship in a free country also requires responsibility. “Not everyone can or should serve in the military, but every citizen can strive to understand the constitution, their own rights, and the rights of others,” she said. “Citizenship is an active role, not a passive one.”
